When Kingsland residents think of first responders, Danny Stone likely comes to mind.
So, it’s no wonder The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 Radio Picayune listeners picked the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department chief as a 2021 Locals Love Us favorite first responder.
“I’ve won it before, but it’s always humbling,” he said. “I know people think highly of it.”
And of Stone.
After all, he has been a member of the department for 41 years and has served as chief for 24 of the past 25 years.
Stone joined the department after watching friends fight fires, and he saw the volunteer department’s importance to the community.
“They invited me, and it went from there,” he said. “It’s gratifying. It’s humbling to be in a position of where I can contribute.”
The responsibility and desire to help Kingsland residents and Highland Lakes has never left Stone. No one has to tell him the importance of what he does for his neighbors and friends. And they recognize his contributions to making Kingsland a safe and happy place to live.
“I want to help my community and be there for my community,” Stone said. “It’s not something I do for recognition; I enjoy doing it.”
