For Amy Jo Williams, development coordinator with the city of Marble Falls, the best part of going to work each day is being with her coworkers. In fact, she credits them as one of the reasons she was voted a 2022 Locals Love Us Favorite City Employee by The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners.
“My coworkers are what make everything worth it and keep me moving forward,” Williams said. “I had a pretty hard time in 2018, and if it hadn’t been for everyone here, I wouldn’t have survived. Even if (what they do is) small, just someone asking how I’m doing today, it matters a lot.”
Williams, who commutes from Buchanan Dam to her Marble Falls workplace every day, has been with the department for five years. The 30-minute drive each way is worth it because she spends the majority of her workweek with people such as City Planner Scarlet Moreno and Building Official Mike Ingalesbe in the Development Department office, 801 Fourth St. in Marble Falls.
As development coordinator, Williams helps issue city permits and collect documents that must be routinely submitted to keep permits up to date. Customer service also plays a role in her daily duties as she often speaks with both current and potential business owners in the area.
“I try to make everything easy for them,” she explained. “We’re kind of a catch-all, so we have to make sure we know where to send callers who may not know who they’re looking to talk to.”
Williams said the Locals Love Us award is a welcome surprise.
“I actually had a few people say they were going to vote for me, and that was just really exciting,” she said. “It just really makes me feel good and really seen.”
