MARBLE FALLS — Donna Petty’s store — Chique, Unique and Antique — offers customers a little bit of everything with a hometown appeal.
“We get a very wide range of items. Some are antiques. Some are vintage. Some are handmade,” Petty said. “We are home-owned, and we have the individual booths. There’s no one else in town like that.”
Donna Petty, along with co-owner Rosie Franco, opened the store, 1701 U.S. 281 North at Seventh Street, in July 2013.
The store specializes in vendor booths with vintage, antique and collector’s items such as dishes, clothing, furniture, decor and jewelry.
“Some of us had been vendors in stores in Burnet and got together and said we need to do this in Marble Falls,” she said. “We have one of the best vintage jewelry collections, if not just in Burnet County, in the state.”
Their emphasis on customer service as well as offering quality merchandise resulted in the store being voted the 2015 Locals Love Us favorite antique shop in the Marble Falls area by The Picayune readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners.
Readers and listeners also voted Petty as favorite Marble Falls-area shopkeeper.
“We try very hard to greet every person who comes into the door with a ‘hello’ and a smile,” she said. “I think they enjoy our friendly atmosphere.”
Among some of their specials throughout the year, the owners hosted a Think Pink fundraising event during Moonlight Madness in October.
Of the items purchased by customers, the owners donated 15 percent to breast cancer research, education and awareness.
The store is well known for one of its featured items as well as its philanthropic endeavors.
“Lampshades outside have become our signature landmark,” Petty said. “We’re on a side street, so when we tell customers where we are, we say ‘Look for the lampshade windsocks.’”
As a result of their popularity and to restock a fresh supply of lampshades, the owners are hosting a Lampshade Windsock Contest in March for customers.
“We’re asking people to bring in their own lampshade,” she said. “We’ll have voting by customers and also on Facebook.”
The first-place winner receives a $50 Visa gift card. The second-place winner will receive a $50 in-store gift certificate. Winners will be announced in April.
