Luminarias and lanterns light up the past during Christmas at Old Fort Croghan from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Fort Croghan Museum and Grounds, 703 Buchanan Drive in Burnet.
Admission is free for visitors to experience what Christmas was like for the area’s early settlers, circa 1850.
Volunteers dressed in period clothing recreate the pioneer holiday spirit, sharing stories and singing traditional Christmas carols. The annual event offers an enchanting evening filled with history and music.
The soft glow from luminarias and kerosene lanterns, along with the warmth from fireplaces and wood stoves, all set the mood for this unique celebration.
For a $5 donation, you can enjoy a light dinner of homemade soup, cornbread or crackers, cookies, and a choice of hot-spiced cider, coffee, or bottled water. It’s a great way to enjoy a walk through holiday history.
