A great way to get outside, spend time with family and friends, can involve something as simple as a flying disc. But instead of just tossing it among yourselves, how about taking on one of the challenging disc golf courses in the Highland Lakes?
- Badu City Park Disc Golf Course, 300 Legion Drive in Llano — This John Houck-designed course along the Llano River is a nice treat. The open-style course includes no holes more than 250 feet in distance, making it a great place for newbies to play, but veterans can definitely enjoy this nine-hole course as well. Go to cityofllano.com. The course was damaged during the October 2018 flood, so check with the city for current conditions.
- Big Chief RV & Cabin Resort, 1420 FM 690 on Lake Buchanan — The resort has a nine-hole course. Go to bigchiefrvresort.com or call 512-793-4746.
- Flat Creek Disc Golf Course, 24912 Singleton Bend East in Marble Falls — A championship-level course designed by John Houck. It’s for players of all ages and skills. Go to flatcreekenoteca.com.
- Haley-Nelson Park, 301 Garden Trails Drive in Burnet — A nine-hole course at a city park. Go to cityofburnet.com.
- Westside Park, located at the intersection of Second Street and Avenue Q in Marble Falls — Check out the John Houck-designed, front nine holes, and then explore the back nine holes added in 2017. The city-owned park offers a good mix of lengths and even some elevation changes. Go to ci.marble-falls.tx.us.
- YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway-Hammond, 1601 S. Water St. (U.S. 281) in Burnet — Spend a day on this 18-hole course.
