Houseplants that clear the air

Houseplants brighten your home while also providing a valuable service. As they sit pretty on your shelves and tabletops, they are also cleaning the air around you. Plants not only give off oxygen, they absorb harmful chemicals from the air.
The most common toxins in the air that plants filter through their leaves and roots are benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene, which come from solvents in cleaning products and paint and from fossil fuels and cigarette smoke.
Here are a few of the hardest workers in the houseplant world:

GOLDEN POTHOS: Removes formaldehyde, benzene, carbon monoxide

ENGLISH IVY: Removes benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, toluene

SPIDER PLANT: Removes benzene, formaldehyde, xylene

BOSTON FERN: Removes formaldehyde, xylene

LADY PALM: Removes ammonia
