KINGSLAND — Llano County Pct. 3 Constable Bill Edwards has a knack for knowing how to handle himself and react to others, no matter the scenario.
“I treat everybody the same. It doesn’t matter if they’re good guys or bad guys,” he said. “I think that makes a lot of points with the citizens.”
The Picayune readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners selected Edwards as the Locals Love Us favorite law enforcement officer in the Llano area three years in a row.
Edwards has served in the position since November 2002.
“Law enforcement is not just writing tickets and arresting bad guys,” he said. “There’s a lot of things we can do to educate people, especially the kids.
“I make presentations in the classrooms,” he said. “We talk about everything from making good choices to anything kids need to learn just to be good people.”
Edwards retired from the U.S. Navy in 1994 after serving 26 years.
In the service, he honed his firearms skills and was a member of the U.S. Navy shooting team.
In that field, he launched his specialty as a firearms instructor, which continues today.
“I’ve always been in a position of service my entire life somewhere,” he said.
His fire training in the military worked in his favor as well.
He has been on the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department since 2000.
“When I first moved here, I didn’t know anybody, so I figured the best place to meet good people was the fire department,” Edwards added.
In 2008, he was named the Hill Country 100 Club Constable of the Year.
The Kingsland/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce named him the 2016 Person of the Year.
He and his wife, Debra, married for 39 years, have two adult children: Timothy, a Granite Shoals Police Officer, and daughter Heather.
“The Kingsland area is a beautiful place to live,” Edwards said. “Good people and great community services. I’m really happy to be there.”
