During a recent meeting of the Llano Community Theatre Board of Directors, President Cheryl Crabtree could hardly sit still.
“I have to tell you something,” she finally said to the other board members.
That “something” was that the theater had won favorite theater production in the annual Locals Love Us awards as voted on by The Picayune readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners.
“It’s a great honor,” Crabtree said. “I (couldn’t) wait to share it with my group.”
The win is even more impressive because the organization doesn’t have its own production house. Plays are presented at the Llano High School auditorium or in fellowship halls at different churches. But supporters of the Llano Community Theatre will follow the productions anywhere, a testament to the talent on stage and behind the scenes.
The Llano Community Theatre was founded two years with one goal:
“We wanted to bring quality theater productions to Llano,” Crabtree said. “I feel like we’ve achieved that goal by the quality productions we’ve put on.”
The most recent play, “The Shaky Tale of Doctor Jakey,” had a cast of 17. And such a large production can only be pulled off by a quality crew.
That crew works well together.
“It absolutely is a family,” Crabtree said. “We depend on each other and depend on each other like family.”
The theater’s directors are still deciding which spring production they’ll present to the community, but it will assuredly be a performance fit for a Locals Love Us winner.
