Even though it was a seasonal position, Stephanie Polovina poured her heart into her customer service job at Inks Lake State Park.
“I loved it,” she said. “I loved the people I worked with. I loved the people who came to the park. It was a great job.”
Polovina worked at the park from July to December, and her effort caught the attention of many people. In fact, The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners picked her as their Locals Love Us favorite cashier and receptionist.
“I would do whatever needed,” she said.
Throughout the day, that meant working the main office, where she checked in visitors, answered the phones and questions, and directed people to their campsite or park amenities. She also took out the trash and even cleaned a restroom or two when asked.
One of the best parts of the job was meeting people from all walks of life and hearing their stories. Many told her that they had been coming to the park for years, first as children and now with their own kids. She sometimes met three generations of one family.
It wasn’t just a job, Polovina said, she was helping people make memories.
