When it come Texas, we all think of a cowboy riding the range. Well, the Highland Lakes is just the place to enjoy a little horseback riding fun yourself.
For those of you who have a horse, some of the best riding trails are at Pedernales Falls State Park, 2585 Park Road 6026 east of Johnson City. But beware: The trails are multi-use, so hikers and mountain bikers also might out there. The park even has an equestrian group camping area. Give them a call at (830) 868-7304 for more.
Along with the state park, the Lower Colorado River Authority allows horseback riding on several of its parks and recreation areas such as Grelle Recreation Area, Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area, Shaffer Bend Recreation Area and Turkey Bend Recreation Area.
