Spend an afternoon at Johnson Park in Marble Falls. The park is situated along the edge of Backbone Creek and shaded by live oak and pecan trees.
The 130-year-old park has been voted ‘Best Park’ in The Picayune’s Locals Love Us contest several years running, for good reason. In 2016, the Texas Recreation and Park Society recognized Johnson Park as a Lone Star Legacy Park.
The park has it all: abundant parking, an amphitheater, open-air covered pavilions, picnic tables, barbecue pits, restroom facilities, and more. Johnson Park is perfect for picnics, family gatherings, birthday parties, and reunions. It serves as a place to clear the mind and appreciate nature.
There are two playgrounds in the park for the little ones, and kids will enjoy exploring either one.
The well-landscaped park is vibrant green with plenty of open space for playing around, throwing Frisbees, flying kites, and more. Gather friends to play at the beach volleyball court or the softball field. There is also a hike-and-bike trail lined with tall, leafy green trees.
Dog owners make great use out of Johnson Park as well. There is a large, shady grass field designated as an off-leash dog park for pets to roam free and mingle with other dogs.
There are plenty of spots to set up a fishing line in the creek, and there’s a boat ramp for access to Lake Marble Falls.
The park hosts many of the city’s biggest events, including the LakeFest show-and-shine, the Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon, the Children’s Day Celebration, the Howdy-Roo chili and barbecue cook-offs, MayFest, and more. Keep track of upcoming festivities with our events calendar at 101HighlandLakes.com/events.
Johnson Park is located at 230 S. Ave. J in Marble Falls.
