March in the Highland Lakes means bluebonnets below and the Bluebonnet Airshow above. The 34th annual ode to World War II-era aviation is Saturday, March 21, at the Burnet Municipal Airport, 2302 U.S. 281 South. It’s presented by the Highland Lakes Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force, which keeps a hangar and museum at the airport.
Gates open at 9 a.m. at Kate Craddock Field. The action in the air begins at noon, and the historic aircraft take off at 12:30 p.m. Parking for this popular event fills up quickly, so get there early, prepare to walk, and take in the vendors, grounded planes, and museum before the show begins.
Expert pilots will push their prized aircraft to the limit in a series of show-stopping performances overhead while the event’s emcee guides thousands of visitors through the program.
Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the gate. Adult admission for ages 18-59 is $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Seniors and military members pay $20. The price for ages 6-17 is $15, while kids 5 and younger get in free.
