Lavone and Mark Webb transform their Marble Falls home into a dazzling Christmas wonderland that lights up starting Dec. 1 each season. For the Webbs, this annual ritual is more than just a holiday tradition; it’s a labor of love that brings joy to their entire community.
“We’re Christmas fanatics,” Lavone said. “It takes several months, but we do get a lot of help from family and friends in the community.”
The couple’s first synchronized lights display was in 2012, and it has been the talk of the town ever since. They begin planning and setting up the elaborate attraction in late September, working for months to ensure every detail is perfect.
Putting up the display is a hobby the couple shares. For Lavone, the joy is in seeing her husband’s passion come to life.
“Mark does this for everybody else, but I do it for him,” she said. “I love decorating the inside, but he does this for the community, and I do it for him.”
This year has special significance as it marks the second year the Webbs will showcase their creation in their new home, 101 Cedar Ridge Drive in Marble Falls. The couple lived in a travel trailer for a year while building their dream house, designed with the lights display in mind. They ran cables and installed hooks to accommodate the thousands of twinkling bulbs.
As Dec. 1 approaches, the Webbs’ driveway begins to transform. They meticulously hang strands of lights, program the computer boards, and carefully place a Nativity scene.
On the big night, cars start lining up as families eagerly tune their radios to the designated station. The anticipation builds as the first notes of a beloved holiday song fill the air. Suddenly, the display bursts to life, the lights dancing in perfect harmony with the music, eliciting gasps of delight from the crowd driving by.
“One of the coolest things is hearing the kids squealing and laughing,” Lavone said. “We just want to make people happy, especially during this time of year.”
“It’s nice to be able to provide something where they can come and forget about everything else for a little while,” Mark added.
