The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced plans for a new state park in Burnet County, which would be located across the Colorado River from Colorado Bend State Park in Lampasas County.
It would be the third state park in Burnet County—after Inks Lake and Longhorn Cavern—and include 2 miles of riverfront upstream from Lake Buchanan.
In January 2025, the TPWD finalized the purchase of 2,020 acres in Burnet County and was eyeing an additional 1,100 acres on the Burnet-Lampasas county line to create the 3,000-plus-acre park.
“It is exciting to add another incredible property that will eventually become a new Texas State Park,” said Rodney Franklin, director of Texas State Parks, in the TPWD media release announcing the land purchase. “This acquisition will give visitors access to enjoy the beautiful Colorado River and the diverse landscapes that are featured across the property.”
The TPWD has made several recent land acquisitions, including over 3,700 acres at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
