Every day for almost four years, art teacher Shannon Baldwin has pushed her Marble Falls Middle School students to be comfortable in their own skin and test their creative limits.
“I teach and encourage all my students to be artists and to enjoy expressing themselves,” she said.
Baldwin also inspired The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Picayune Radio listeners, who voted her a 2023 Locals Love Us Favorite School Teacher.
“I am honored to have been nominated,” she said. “I am glad to know I am inspiring my young artists and that they enjoy art.”
Baldwin moved to the Highland Lakes to be closer to her family after working as an art teacher for several years at Burleson Independent School District near Dallas.
She enjoys the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
“I love the hills and all the lake choices,” Baldwin said.
Teaching middle schoolers to harness their creativity isn’t always easy. To Baldwin, the best part of the job is when kids realize their abilities.
“I love to see the excitement on my students’ faces when they see what they are capable of creating,” she said.
Baldwin is able to reach hard-to-teach students through her approach as an educator.
“I like to allow students to express themselves through their personal interests,” she said. “I try to be student-centric and exploratory with techniques and processes to help bloom their inner artist.”
