Anyone can boogie when Saguaro plays.

“We do a variety (of songs),” said vocalist-guitarist David Horner. “We have a few originals, but it mainly depends on the venue and what the crowd really wants to listen to. We play the crowd.”

The band’s relatable sound is why it was voted Favorite Band by The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners in the 2024 Locals Love Us contest.

“For the community to actually vote for us is cool,” Horner said. “You don’t always hear feedback. At a show, you always have a handful of people that tell you ‘good job,’ but you never know if that’s just someone talking.”

Horner and vocalist-bassist Felicia King are the self-described “backbone” of the band.

“We go up to five (members) at times, but we’re the main two that are always the two,” Horner said. “For fuller band shows, we’ll bring on another two or three people.”

The group performs across Central Texas at venues in Marble Falls, Fredericksburg, Austin, and San Antonio.

“We like to go out and have fun and play,” Horner said.

In Marble Falls, Horner specifically enjoys playing at the Uptown Theatre. Saguaro performs at the venue on the last Friday of every month.

“It’s an old building from the 1920s,” he said. “It’s the only building to survive the fire (of 1927) on this block. It’s got the old stage, too. Playing on the floor with everybody else is OK, but playing on a stage gives a whole different atmosphere and feeling.”

King’s favorite part of performing is watching the reactions of spectators.

“It’s the ultimate people-watching,” she laughed. “We’ve had some wild encounters.”
