Isaiah Ramirez enjoys going to work every day as a pro shop assistant at Hidden Falls Golf Course in Meadowlakes.

“I love having a chance to talk with all the people that pass through,” the 21-year-old said. “I think I really just love the people in general.”

The people who line up at the Meadowlakes links love him, too. Ramirez was voted Favorite City Employee by The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners in the 2024 Locals Love Us contest.

“It’s awesome,” he said of the award. “It’s nice to know you’re making a mark on a city like this and that everyone here enjoys you being here.”

Ramirez is originally from Dumas, a small town in the Texas Panhandle. He and his family moved to the Highland Lakes over a decade ago and have not regretted it.

“I moved here when I was a sixth-grader, and we’ve been here ever since,” he said. “It’s a different kind of area than I’m used to. I’m so used to flat lands and no trees and just dirt everywhere. When you’re here, you get the entire experience: the lake, the hills, and a whole different type of environment. I love it.”

Ramirez played on the Marble Falls High School golf team under head coach Lonnie Tackitt from 2017-21. During his senior year, the squad made its first regional playoff appearance since 2003.

“I’ve always enjoyed golf,” he said. “It feels like I’ve been playing forever.”

Ramirez’s No. 1 responsibility at Hidden Falls Golf Course is to make sure everyone else enjoys the game, too.

“For the most part, I ensure that everyone that comes out to play has a good time,” he said. “I take care of all the behind-the-scenes stuff, like sending out invoices and making the week-to-week schedule for all the employees. I also make sure our cart barn is in tip-top shape and running smoothly.”
