Is it really Christmas without a little ice and snow? Marble Falls and Llano are making sure the Highland Lakes area gets its fair share of northern fun with the following events.
SKATING IN THE PARK
Marble Falls sets up a 4,000-square-foot ice skating rink at Lakeside Park, 305 Buena Vista Drive, from Nov. 21-Jan. 3. The ice will be open 5-10 p.m. daily throughout the season.
Entry to the rink is $12 if tickets are purchased during presale or $15 at the gate. Go to visitmarblefalls.org/icerink to buy online.
This year, the rink will be open to ice bumper cars from Nov. 21-Dec. 6 only. These raucous little rides allow kids to scoot along the ice and shove each other around—safely—for seven-minute stints.
Between Dec. 7 and Jan. 3, the rink will offer full-time skate sessions. Admission gets you one hour of ice time. Bring your own skates or borrow some from the rink. The smallest skates on hand are a child’s size 5, and the largest are a man’s size 12.
The rink will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, and Christmas Day, Dec. 25. It will also close early on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m.
LLANO SNOW DAY

Llano doesn’t mess around when it comes to creating a winter wonderland, although depending on the temperature, it can get a little messy. Bring towels and a change of clothes to Snow Day on Dec. 13 to slip and slide down a massive sledding hill made from over 35,000 pounds of ice. The snowy mount can be found in the heart of Badu Park, 300 Legion Drive.
Festivities run from 2-6 p.m. that day. Wristbands are required to bomb down the hill. Sleds will be provided. For those not interested in icy activities, other family fun can be had while the daring go dashing through the snow.
