The Marble Falls Rodeo Association has been putting on a show every third weekend of July since 1957.

“It’s like a big community reunion,” said Jacque Rogers Horn, a director for the rodeo with familial ties to its origins. “It’s nice to be with your family and friends and watch the horses.”

The Marble Falls Rodeo’s generation-spanning traditions and community atmosphere are why The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners voted it Favorite Outdoor Activity in the 2024 Locals Love Us contest.

“I can see why people voted for it,” Horn said. “It’s been around for a long time. We’re all volunteers, so it’s nice to know that (people) appreciate it.”

The rodeo has grown in size each year since it was started by Horn’s dad, Jack Rogers, and his friends Charley Taylor and Bobby Burnam. In 2023, around 7,000 rodeo fans attended.

“It grows every single year,” Horn said.

Top events include bull riding, barrel racing, and mutton busting.

Horn’s favorite is steer saddling.

“The community can be in that one,” she said. “The last few years, the police and fire departments have been going against each other for bragging rights. There’s a lot of local people in it and a lot of rivalry there.”

Planning and organizing the cherished community event is no small task, Horn said.

“We have meetings a couple of months before it starts,” she said. “We really start thinking about the next rodeo as soon as the (current) one is over.”

The Marble Falls Rodeo team of 17 directors go above and beyond each year to ensure the show happens without a hitch.

“We do it for the community,” Horn said.
