“Don’t turn on your kill switch; turn on your chill switch,” said Jackie Bresie, co-owner of the bustling bar and restaurant.
Pecan Street changed ownership in September 2016, passing from one family to another, but nothing else has changed: It still holds the same small-town charm and friendly ambiance from when it opened in 2008.
The original owners of Pecan Street, Patty and Tim Elliott, built the brewpub out of the old Blanco County Supply and Hardware store. The window paint still advertises items such as fishing tackle, ammunition, and wool to pay homage to its roots.

Though the Elliots recently “Passed the Pecan” to new owners Chrystal and Don Tamillo, Ray McMain, and Jackie Bresie, the Elliots’ son, Sean, stayed behind as head brewer.
Through a window behind the bar, you can see Sean hard at work crafting the artisan beers in the massive tanks. The tanks came all the way from a Chicago brewery that went out of business.
They’ve been put to good use in Johnson City.
Pecan Street Brewing serves a selection of home-brewed draughts that will charm any beer lover’s tastebuds. Order a flight to get the full flavor and decide which one is your favorite. Don’t expect to have your beer served in a chilled glass. According to bartender Chris Storar, ice cold beer is an insult to craft beverages.
“You’re not getting as much of the taste when you serve this type of beer cold,” he explained. “As the beer warms up a little, you really do taste more of the flavors. Whereas, if you let Coors Light warm up, very few people can drink it. It’s just the difference in the type of beer.”
Visit Pecan Street Brewing from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Sunday to try some true Hill Country beer. It’s closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Drop in during happy hour from 3-6 p.m. weekdays. You also can listen to live music on the weekends.
