When people walk into the lobby of Kingsland School, the first person they see is registrar Crystal Serda, and she’s all about making them feel like family.
“We have the Lake Family – that’s what we have here,” she said. “I love that it’s family-oriented. They make everyone feel like they’re going the extra mile. We have the best teachers, and we have the best students. We have some of the greatest kids.”
The Kingsland School family and community appreciate her work and attitude. The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners chose her as a 2021 Locals Love Us favorite receptionist.
Serda is in her third year with the charter school and her first as registrar. She’s found her home and doesn’t plan on going anywhere else.
“It’s registering kids and making sure we have everything,” she said of her role as registrar. “Answering calls, making sure parents have all the info they need for the school. And, I help the principal with everything she needs as well as the secretary. I’m on the front line, and I try to get it figured out.”
She embraces the most important skill for her job: multitasking to ensure each school day runs smoothly.
“It is not for the weak,” Serda said. “Nothing is planned, nothing is scheduled. If you plan something, you’re lucky if you do it at that time.”
A friend who worked at the school encouraged Serda to apply there three years ago.
“She was bragging about how family-oriented the students and their families are with the staff,” Serda said.
She immediately felt the Kingsland School family embrace.
“It was like they’d known me my whole life,” she said.
