This April, when the annual Burnet Bluebonnet Festival turns 39, organizers can chalk up another accomplishment. The festival, which is set for April 8-10, was voted a 2022 Locals Love Us Favorite Community Event by The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners.
“I think it goes back to that there’s so much at the Bluebonnet Festival that everyone will find something they enjoy or want to do,” said Allison McKee, executive director of the Burnet Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the event. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together and have fun.”
The Bluebonnet Festival draws tens of thousands of people over its three days. Festival-goers enjoy live music, unique arts and crafts vendors, great food, a carnival, local shopping, a parade, games, and even wiener dog racing. The chamber and its cadre of volunteers pack a lot of activities into those three days.
Even as the chamber enjoys celebrating the Locals Love Us award, the staff, board of directors, and volunteers are hard at work on the upcoming festival.
“We have the carnival lined up. We’re working on getting all the vendors,” McKee said. “And Damon (Beierle) is lining up the music for us.”
The chamber always strive to make sure each edition of the festival is fun and memorable.
“It’s a great way to showcase Burnet and the community,” McKee said. “One of the things about the festival is it brings people to Burnet, and they enjoy it and then they come back at other times during the year.”
The Bluebonnet Festival always takes place the second weekend of April. Visit bluebonnetfestival.org for more information on the event.
