Sunrise Beach Village residents have Sean Schreiber to thank for the water in their faucets, and they did thank him: with a 2023 Locals Love Us award. The city water department supervisor was voted Favorite City Employee by The Picayune Magazine readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners.
He takes pride in getting water to customers.
“I think it's important, especially when you provide a utility service, to be professional and courteous with your customers because they need reassurance that you’re somebody that can take care of things, so they don’t have to worry about their water,” Schreiber said.
He has been with the city only since June 2022 but has 18 years' experience working with Highland Lakes water. He hopes to remain with Sunrise Beach Village for the rest of his working days.
“I’m hoping this is where I’m at until it's time to retire,” he said. “I really like it here. The people are wonderful, and the community has been beyond wonderful.”
Schreiber sees a direct connection between his work and the well-being of the people he serves.
“Being a part of something that benefits a community, I don’t know, it’s rewarding, I guess,” he said. “I enjoy doing it. I take a lot of pride in it, and it's just nice to be able to give something to people.”
Not only does he enjoy his work, he has found a community that appreciates what he does and lets him know that it matters.
Being voted a Locals Love Us favorite made him feel appreciated.
“I feel wanted and needed, and there is nothing better than that,” he said.
Also voted Favorite City Employee were the city of Cottonwood Shores' Gladys Montoya for the Marble Falls area and the city of Burnet's Andrew Scott for the Burnet area. Flip through the digital 2023 Locals Love Us magazine for a full list of winners.
