BURNET — The Highland Lakes is the place to be if you’re looking for a tee.
Across the area, the Highland Lakes boast some incredible golf courses, including the three latest winners of the 2015 Locals Love Us contest. That’s correct, The Picayune readers and KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune listeners have spoken, and they’ve anointed three area courses the Locals Love Us favorites.
In Burnet, the Delaware Springs Municipal Golf Course continues to earn accolades. This public course offers some challenging holes, but not so challenging it will have you biting your woods.
The course features 6,891 yards from the black tees with distances of 6,328 yards from the blue; 5,829 yards from the white; and 4,931 yards from the red. It will test your accuracy with the hazards, fairways and traps but make it an enjoyable “test.”
The picturesque course makes for a great way to spend a day golfing. And you’ll find all the amenities here you need from a great pro shop to a wonderful restaurant.
If you’re looking to get started in golfing or improve your game, Delaware Springs Municipal Golf Course offers lessons under the tutelage of PGA Golf Professional Doug Fipps.
The course even hosts a Junior Golf Camp for the youngsters interested in learning the game.

Down the road a bit in Marble Falls, you can get on the fairways and greens at the Hidden Falls Golf Club. The semi-private club features an 18-hole championship course that stretches out for 6,700 yards. There are four tee boxes from which to choose with distances of 6,732 yards from the blue tee; 6,254 yards from the white tee; 5,956 yards from the gold tee; and 5,257 yards from the red tee.
One of the great things about the Hidden Falls Golf Club — like the other two winners — is how incredibly welcoming everybody is on the course.
You’ll find great support and help at the pro shop. Plus, the 19th Hole Bar and Grill (which is open to the public) offers some great food to close out the day.
The Hidden Falls Golf Club also can help you become a golfer or improve your play with lessons. The club offers private and semi-private lessons for all ages and levels.
And if you’re looking for a place at which to hold a special event, Hidden Falls staff will work with you.

If you happen to be in the Blue Lake area and are hankering for a round of golf, you should check out the Blue Lake Golf Club.
The club is a semi-private one but welcomes everybody. You can just show up and play (with the exception of Tuesday and Thursday mornings, which are reserved for members.) The nine-hole golf course is considered one of the best in the state with great views overlooking Lake LBJ and just good, fun holes.
Blue Lake might not be the largest or most prestigious course in the area, but the members and golfers have a lot of fun.
