The Science Mill in Johnson City is bringing in 28 tons of real snow for a flurry of fun learning activities and demonstrations. Snow Day 2025 is Jan. 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.at the hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) museum, 101 S. Lady Bird Lane.
Events include:
- Snow Pit (all day)
- DIY Snow (10 a.m. and noon)
- Spaghetti Engineering Challenge (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.)
- Liquid Nitrogen (10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.), which demonstrates the chemical properties of a super-icy substance as everyday objects are exposed to liquid nitrogen at minus-321 degrees
- Vortex Cannon (12:30 p.m. with Frosty Bubbles), which creates toroidal vortices as educators explain how even the smallest particles and molecules in the air experience the physics of friction
- Frosty Bubbles (12:30 p.m. with Vortex Cannon) demo that teaches about sublimation
- Fros-Tee Challenge (11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m.)
- Snowball Slingshot that launches snowballs at hanging hula-hoop targets.
- Mini-Sled Derby
