Walk the ancient streets of Bethlehem in the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas. Every year, First Baptist Church of Burnet recreates the holy city during the time of Jesus’ birth, showcasing a dedicated cast of characters and sets designed to immerse visitors in the days of old.

Main Street Bethlehem is 6-9 p.m. Dec. 5-7 and Dec. 12-14 at 108 S. Vandeveer St. This spot in downtown Burnet transforms into a biblical village with a marketplace, tavern, working blacksmith shop, and live animals. Dozens of volunteers dress the part and stay in character throughout the event.

Visitors take on the role of travelers visiting Bethlehem, only to find the town’s inn full. They then roam the streets, hearing excited whispers and rumors of a miracle birth, before making their way to a cave where a road-weary couple and their newborn baby have taken shelter among the animals.

“(The couple’s) place in God’s plan and secular history to be made secure on this night, for the child in their arms was the incarnation of God Himself, come to the world that all who would place their faith in Him might enjoy eternal fellowship in His presence,” reads the First Baptist Church of Burnet’s description of the experience.

Main Street Bethlehem began in 1993 with a simple set of sheets and temporary walls but has since blossomed into a thoughtful experience that is sure to move the faithful.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
