You don’t have to go to the Rockies for a log cabin experience. Find it right here in the Highland Lakes at Log Country Cove. This sprawling, waterside resort bills itself as a family-friendly, rustic rest stop, and it delivers.
Dozens of log cabins dot the 175-acre property, which occupies a particularly beautiful slice of central Burnet County that includes rugged hills covered in prickly pear and a luscious stretch of the Colorado River and Williams Creek.
The Highland Lakes resort offers month-long stays and more at its cabins, which range from one-bedroom models for a couple’s getaway to palatial log palazzos that are perfect for a family trip. Cabin lots are 1-5 acres, so privacy is guaranteed.
The resort is family-owned and -operated, having been founded by the Martins in 2001, and it was designed with family in mind.
“We always wanted the vibe to be fun and family-friendly and enjoyable for kids as well as adults,” said Maegan (Martin) Reitan, who co-owns Log Country Cove with her parents and siblings. “We try to make it where families can enjoy their time together and not have to be on their phones and watching TV inside.”

You’ll find plenty to keep you entertained at Log Country Cove, which has access to the Colorado River and Lake LBJ along with watercraft rentals, miles of hiking trails, rope swings, miniature golf, volleyball, a communal clubhouse, tons of outdoor space for grilling, swimming, and tree climbing, and even Wi-Fi. You can also hold your wedding or corporate event at its beautiful Cedar Skies venue.
Maybe the resort’s greatest asset is its remote location that is still close enough to the Highland Lakes cities of Marble Falls, Burnet, and Horseshoe Bay for dining and shopping as well as Inks Lake State Park and Longhorn Cavern State Park.
“I think just to get out of the city and the hustle and bustle is nice. It’s really quiet out here,” Reitan said. “We don’t have a lot of lighting, so you can see the stars every night. There’s lots of wildlife, probably more than most people would like, but that’s part of living in the country.”
